This past month, during Mental Health Awareness month, there was a focus of mental health at home, but mental health at work is also really important. Many people see and experience signs of stress and burnout in themselves and others while working, which need to be addressed by using coping strategies and building resilience.
When problems come up at work, it’s easy to avoid dealing with them by putting off tough conversations or finding distractions. This avoidance can lead to increased stress and feelings of being overwhelmed, making people react impulsively, which can hurt work relationships. Ignoring problems doesn’t make them go away; it often makes things worse, leading to more stress and emotional struggles.
It’s important to recognize how we feel so we can find better ways to cope. Simple actions, like deep breaths before meetings or talking a walk to refocus, can help calm our minds and bodies. These strategies can improve our “psychological capital,” helping us feel hopeful, resilient, and optimistic.
A healthy workplace isn’t just about getting through the day—it’s about helping everyone succeed. By taking care of ourselves and supporting each other, we can create a better, more balanced work environment for everyone.

Steamboat Springs’ Day of Caring
The Steamboat Springs team from Health Solutions West rolled up their sleeves and gave back to the community during the United Way Day of Caring on May 21.
Employees volunteered their time to support local nonprofits through hands-on projects—ranging from outdoor cleanup and yard work to organizing supplies and lending a helping hand. Their efforts not only made a meaningful impact on local nonprofit organizations but also strengthened our connection to the community we serve. One of our employees, Kristin Burge, was also featured in the Steamboat Pilot, the local newspaper.
“The Steamboat Team had a great turnout for the United Way Day of Caring. The whole team volunteered at the Lift Up. We really helped them get several projects completed and had a great time doing it. It was really nice to get community members to see our HSW team out in the community,” said Tom Gangel, Regional Outreach Director.
