Four years ago, Amber found herself at Mind Springs Women’s Recovery Center after a failed attempt through drug court to get sober. Amber’s journey with substance use disorder had started when she was still a teenager. Introduced to methamphetamine, she spent the next 15 years in a downward spiral, which led her to homelessness, being alone, and contemplating suicide.
Today, Amber is celebrating four years of sobriety and has been promoted from a mental health worker to a peer support specialist. Her decision to work for Health Solutions West was driven by her desire to give back and help others, just as Health Solutions West helped her. She recalls, “Health Solutions West changed my life. The amount of therapy and [talking to] people with the same lived experience is life-changing—if you’re willing to make that change.”
